Happy 2008! Just to recap for anyone visiting this site for the first time, this website is home to my project of writing, recording, and posting an original song every Monday this year. Any comments (positive or negative), encouragement, serenades, suggestions, flowers, sexy accents, randomness, or the tossing of soft, squishy objects is very much appreciated!
The debut song which aptly enough is about beginnings is called In the Wings. It’s also the first original song that I’ve recorded using GarageBand and therefore the first time I could add drums! About two weeks ago, I was fiddling around on guitar and simultaneously came up with the opening riff and the lyric that fit to it. Since I had a little more time to prepare for the first week, I spent a lot of time on the guitar part, moving it from its original minor into major and back to change what was coming across.

Are asian accents considered sexy?
Tossing of soft squishy objects…. like… lychees?

Lovely!
My one quibble is that the extra vocal tracks seem to come out of nowhere, somehow. I don’t know if it’s in how they’re mixed together, but when I first heard the harmonies I was like huh? Not like they’re wrong, but like they aren’t completely woven in, acoustically.
However, I have no idea how to fix that.

Good stuff! When the ‘drum’ first kicks in, it might be just a touch too vigorous, but all in all it’s a gorgeous beginning.

Deb! It’s beautiful! You have such a soft, melodious voice and the beginning and single-track parts are a joy to listen to.
My one criticism is that the multiple tracks all seem to come on at the same volume and in the same vocal “tone,” and in combination with the drum beat I had trouble picking one part out from the others. If the main vocal part had been harsher, or more insistent, for instance, it might have been easier to listen to the mix. Otherwise, beautiful!
I look forward to hearing more.

Hi Debs!
I love your voice. I am really glad that I bought the NanowriMusic CD. You’re all talented, but especially you, Errol and Ryan Peters. I love you guys’ voices.
You are a very talented songwriter. I write too, but only lyrics. You can take a look at my looks and maybe tell me what you think…?
I laughed so hard when I first heard you and Errol’s song: “Writer’s Block”. It’s still hilarious and I that’s why I still laugh when I listen to it.

Oh, sorry… It should have said: “Take a look at my LYRICS,” and not “Take a look at my LOOKS”.
And sorry for the extra “I” in the last sentence. Hope it’s alright, though.
